A design and research project in the Withington area in conjunction with Manchester City Council's Valuing Older People team. We are looking to highlight positive images of the area and to document what Withington means to its community of older people through images and words.
The project was set out to reach a wide audience targeting people who want to share their memories with the rest of the community. The project was set out to be a platform where the younger and the older people by sharing their memories become more aware of each other’s ways of looking at things. Awareness about one another’s point of view is what the project aims at doing.
I placed a “visitors book” at a café and a shop, I have based the advertising strategy on that. It will be advertised in cafes/bars/ shops (more in cafés) in and around Withington with the help of flyers, posters networking sites and an online blog where information about events will be shared as well as the work if the participants are willing to share.
My project “Book of Memories” needed its participants to be willing to share their precious memories with the community, for that to happen the right approach is essential, with the help of the church and the shops and café in Withington where people of all age groups visit I’ll be communicating details about the project, which could further help in other activities that would take place in the future. I’m looking at putting together an event where people could come share stories from the past, their memories about the places. The event will also show ways of making the book of memories a fun activity to do by them self, whether or not they’d like to share it in the future. Its about telling your story and putting it out their for people to be inspired by it.
